Rhododendron Cetewayo is a collector's shrub that boasts one of the darkest blooms of its kind. Thus, in spring, delicate clusters of purple, almost black, buds appear through its evergreen foliage. From mid-May to June, the floral lobes develop in stages to form majestic terminal bouquets. Composed of huge rounded burgundy red flowers, the Rhododendron Cetawayo then offers a flamboyant and unique spectacle in the garden.

The Rhododendron Cetewayo presents an upright and vigorous habit, it will reach an adult size of 1.5 m for a spread of the same dimension. This evergreen shrub retains its helix-shaped leaves, a beautiful glossy green, throughout the year. Hardy, it withstands harsh winter conditions down to —23 ° C.

For its culture, Rhododendron Cetewayo appreciates a soil rich in humus, acid, fresh and well drained. Its best exposure is to the northwest where it enjoys partial shade and remains protected from the hottest rays of the sun. Symbol of elegance, the Rhododendron Cetewayo produces its spectacular effect in isolation at the edge of a pond and in a bed in the middle of the garden.
