Origin United States

The Virginia creeper or Parthenocissus Quinquefolia is absolutely magnificent in autumn, making facades glow with its remarkable red foliage. With tendrils rather than suckers, this fast-growing vine grows vigorously without ever damaging the walls.

Native to North America, the Virginia creeper is cold resistant to -25°C. When mature, it can reach a height of 20 metres and a width of 3 to 4 metres. This means that it can easily cover any surface! The Virginia creeper flowers in June and July, before producing black, ovoid fruits 8 to 12 mm in diameter, which are very popular with birds. The young shoots of the Virginia creeper are red in colour. The leaves are deciduous and shiny, medium green, with five toothed leaflets each. They are very decorative and turn scarlet in autumn.

The Virginia creeper thrives in rich, well-drained soil, not too dry to cool. It thrives in all exposures, whether shady or sunny. Parthenocissus Quinquefolia can be planted between March and December, trellising it until it stands on its own. In order to tame its vigorous growth, pruning is possible in all seasons.
