Osmanthus burkwoodii, a pleasantly scented spring bloomer.

Osmanthus burkwoodii or Burkwood Osmanthus is a horticultural cross between Osmanthus decorus and Osmanthus delavayile.  Burkwood Osmanthus is an evergreen shrub that is decorative all year round. It has a very attractive, opulent white spring flowering with a strong fragrance and attractive, shiny, dark green foliage.

Osmanthus burkwoodii is a compact, upright shrub that grows to a height of 1.80 m with the same spread. In April-May, numerous small white tubular flowers bloom in bouquets, giving off a powerful jasmine scent. They are highly melliferous and attract bees and other foraging insects. The tough, elongated, slightly toothed leaves are about 3 to 5 cm long. They resemble those of the holly.

Burkwood Osmanthus thrives in any fertile, cool, well-drained soil. Place in sun or semi-shade, protected from cold winds. Hardy from -15 to -20°C, it is a shrub that fits perfectly into evergreen hedges. It can also be placed in a shrubbery, in isolation or in a container. It is easy to care for and can be pruned if necessary after flowering to balance its silhouette.

Burkwood Osmanthus will liven up your garden and terrace from spring onwards with its superb flowering and jasmine-like fragrance, but also throughout the rest of the year with its pretty, shiny, evergreen foliage.
