Miscanthus sinensis Gracillimus, a fine and elegant foliage.

Miscanthus sinensis Gracillimus or Japanese silver grass Gracillimus is a very decorative grass, native to Asia, which differs from other varieties by its very fine deciduous foliage, falling elegantly at the ends. Adult, it forms a graceful tuft 1.50 m high for a spread of 0.60 m. Rapidly growing, it has an upright habit at the drooping ends. It is also the Japanese silver grass which blooms the latest.

The very narrow leaves of Miscanthus sinensis Gracillimus initially green with a white central vein, in autumn take on a pretty color in orange and then bronze tones. Flowering stems up to 2 m in height and bearing coppery-pink inflorescences develop from late September to November. These ears, reminiscent of feather dusters, gradually turn golden yellow.

Resistant to cold down to -20 ° C and to drought, Japanese silver grass Gracillimus is easy to grow. It accepts any type of soil but appreciates rich, cool and well-drained soil. Preferably install it in the sun. Cut back the stems and leaves in March-April to 20 cm from the ground.

The Miscanthus sinensis Gracillimus is splendid when it is planted in isolation but it also brings elegance and lightness in a bed associated with perennials and flowering shrubs.
