The Dahlia Arabian Night is appreciated for its rapid growth and is distinguished by its sumptuous dark purple double flowers, which attract bees to the garden from July onwards. This perennial tuberous plant keeps well from one year to the next.

Dahlia Arabian Night is a medium-sized plant, reaching a height of 0.90 to 1.20 m and a width of 0.60 m when fully grown. Its deciduous foliage is nicely cut. From July to November, its double flowers of 15 cm in diameter captivate the eye with their velvety petals and their splendid dark purple, almost black colour. They look great in borders and beds, but also in bouquets because of their excellent vase life. Semi-hardy, the Dahlia Arabian Night can withstand temperatures between 0 and -4°C. It can be overwintered in a dry place in the cellar and replanted the following year.

PLANTING :

The Dahlia Arabian Night thrives in sunny, rich, humusy, well-drained soil. Planting can be done from the end of March, in pots and frost-free, for a quick start of the plant in the summer once replanted in the beds, or directly in the ground, but it will be necessary to wait until mid-May when the risk of late frosts is eliminated. Plant the bulb 6 to 10 cm from the surface of the soil in a mixture of potting soil, garden soil and river sand, spacing them at 0.80 to 1.20 m apart, filling in well with soil and avoiding air pockets around the bulb. Remove from the ground at the first frost in early November.
