If you are a fan of all things unusual, the Dahlia Honka Dark will be on your wish list. Are they black? Well, not quite, but they are a deep purple red that is almost black! But the charm of the Dahlia Honka Dark is not limited to its colour. From July to October the unusual shape of this star-shaped flower with a diameter of 9 to 10 cm is a real attraction. Its inwardly curved petals enclose a golden yellow centre that is visited by numerous nectar-seeking insects. Its green foliage and flowers are supported by dark purple stems. The Dahlia Honka Dark can be cut to form beautiful bouquets.

Compact, this dwarf Dahlia with a maximum height of 60-70 cm and a spread of 30-50 cm is easy to place in almost any sunny garden, and is well suited to container growing. Contrast it with white flowering plants for a graphic and artistic look or surround it with plants with dark green or textured foliage, such as hostas or ferns, to accentuate its mysterious and picturesque aesthetic.

The Dahlia Honka Dark is a cold hardy perennial that should be overwintered out of the ground and out of the freezer, in a dry cellar for example.

Growing tips :

- Plant your dahlia tubers at the very beginning of spring indoors in a pot, protected from frost or plant them directly outside once the risk of frost has passed (mid-May)

- Place the tubers 10 cm deep in slightly acidic, rich and moist soil

- Space the tubers 30 to 50 cm apart

- Water after planting and keep the tubers hydrated as they grow.

- For a sublime flowering, don't hesitate to remove the side buds and keep only the main one (the terminal bud) which will then be able to develop to its maximum.

- Dig up the bulb at the end of October for winter storage.
