The Elaeagnus ebbingei Gilt Edge, also known as the Ebbinge's silverberry Gilt Edge, is a small, elegant shrub with a compact habit and decorative foliage. The Elaeagnus is an undemanding and easy to maintain shrub. It is a cross between Elaeagnus pungens and Elaeagnus macrophylla.

The Elaeagnus ebbingei Gilt Edge has variegated evergreen foliage. It is a deep green with golden yellow stripes, from which it gets its name "Gilt Edge". The leaves are medium in size, from 6 to 10 centimetres. Elaeagnus ebbingei Gilt Edge flowers from September to December with hundreds of small, white flowers, 1 to 2 cm long and deliciously scented. The flowers are followed by small edible fruits.

Ebbinge's silverberry Gilt Edge can grow to a height of 2 to 2.5 metres at maturity, with a spread of 1.5 to 2 metres. It is ideal for use as a hedge or as a wild plant, as well as being planted singly. It can withstand both drought and very low temperatures, down to -20°C. It can grow in any soil, whether acid or basic. On the seashore, it can withstand sea spray.

Plant the Elaeagnus ebbingei Gilt Edge in a mixture of soil and compost. Water thoroughly, and at least twice a week after planting to promote growth. Plant in well-drained soil. Choose a sunny or semi-shady spot. If planted in a hedge, prune at the very beginning of spring or in autumn.
