The Cornus Florida Rubra is a dark pink flowering variant of flowering dogwood or Cornus Florida.

The Cornus Florida Rubra is one of the most beautiful flowering trees in North America and belongs to the cornaceae family.

Under our climate, the Pink flowering dogwood can reach 6 meters in height for a wingspan of 5 meters. This small tree, or large shrub has a unique trunk and its spreading port consists of a crown of lateral branches on a trunk often twisted, and developing horizontally.

Beginning in May, clusters of small green, yellow-tipped flowers about one centimeter in length appear before, or at the same time as, the leaves, on bare boughs, these flowers are surrounded by bracts bright pink, resembling flat flowers with four petals, at the end of summer they are followed by red berries that melt into its autumn foliage with scarlet and violet hues.

The foliage of the deciduous Cornus Florida Rubra is composed of green leaves with a lighter lapel. They are oval and pointed and measure between 10 and 15 cm long.

The Pink flowering dogwood prefers cool, non-calcareous soils.Hot and humid summers contribute to its full development.

The pink flowering dogwood is a beautiful subject, even alone in a garden, but integrates perfectly with a hedge or a grove or in the shruberry of heathland accompanied by Acer palmatumrhododendron and azalea for an assured Japonisante atmosphere.
