The Golden Tartarean dogwood or Cornus alba Aurea is a shrub whose beauty you will appreciate all year round. It is distinguished by its "bright red" twigs which are sure to attract attention in winter. Its height can reach 2 or even 3 m in adulthood, and it can spread over 3 m. The bright yellow deciduous foliage of Cornus alba Aurea is particularly fascinating; it changes color throughout the year: in summer, it turns orange, in autumn and winter, it takes on a red to pinkish tone.

In transitional periods, this foliage, usually golden yellow, will also go through yellow-green and lemon-yellow appearances. Cornus alba Aurea offers a magnificent white bloom in May-June followed at the end of summer by white to bluish berries, the shape of which is reminiscent of peas gathered in a corymb.

The Golden Tartarean dogwood is a fairly cold hardy plant. It can withstand negative temperatures down to -20 ° C. It is a fast growing shrub. Cornus alba Aurea is a rather vigorous shrub that grows in any soil, and even those that are calcareous. You can plant it in a container or in the ground. It can be grown in isolation, in a hedge or in a bed.

At the end of each winter, prune the old discolored branches to ensure that you get new, red stems. To carry out pruning, cut 30 cm from the ground, or 1/3 or 1/2 of the branch, it must be done in February - March.
