The Calico flower has a heart-shaped foliage, which is evergreen but it falls if the temperatures drop below + 5 ° C.

In traditional African medicine, Aristolochia elegans is used for the treatment of malaria. While in Mexico it is used as a detoxifying agent in case of scorpion stings or snake bites.

Cultivated in a cool soil rich in humus, the Calico flower is reserved for more temperate areas such as the Mediterranean basin since it is resistant to cold only up to temperatures of +3 to -1 ° C. In cooler areas, it is better to let it grow in a pot along a trellis on the terrace, the balcony, or in the shelter of a veranda for the winter.
