Self-fertile, Actinidia Zakarpacie can fruit on its own, offering juicy kiwifruit in early fall. Vigorous and able to withstand cold down to -25°C, this variety is a hybrid between an Actinidia deliciosa (kiwi) and an Actinidia Arguta (Hardy kiwi vine) which means that it flourishes even in very harsh climates.

Native to Poland, the Kiwi Fruit Self-fertile Zakarpacie is 4 to 5 metres high and 4 to 5 metres wide at maturity. Its deciduous foliage takes on a beautiful red colour in autumn. The Actinidia Zakarpacie flowers in May and June. The creamy-white flowers are a delight for bees. They then give way to oval, brown, hairy fruits. These medium-sized kiwis weigh 70 to 80 grams each and are both sweet and juicy. They are harvested in October and can be enjoyed fresh or in delicious homemade fruit salads with other exotic fruits.

The Kiwi Fruit Self-fertile Zakarpacie likes all types of soil: it just needs to be well drained. It looks great on a trellis, and should be planted in the sun and watered regularly. To enjoy its kiwifruit every year, it is pruned to two eyes on the branches that have borne fruit.
