The Prunus cerasus Carmine Jewel or Dwarf Cherry Carmine Jewel is a small cherry tree with a bushy habit, native to Canada, reaching at maturity 1.50 m to 2 m in height for a spreading of 1.50 m to 2 m branched from the soil, ideal for small spaces and suitable for container cultivation. This variety of fruit tree with good vigor is very resistant to cold (down to -30 ° C) and to diseases. It offers an abundant production of cherries 2.2 cm in diameter, with dark red skin and juicy and very sweet flesh. Self-fertile, it does not need to be associated with another variety for pollination, however cross-pollination improves yield.

In May, Prunus cerasus Carmine Jewel is covered with small white flowers. It begins to bear fruit after 3 years. Cherries are harvested at the end of July and August. Provided with a small stone, fleshy and of good caliber, these have a high sugar level. They are particularly appreciated when eaten fresh, in pastry, or transformed into jams and fruit juices.

The Dwarf Cherry Carmine Jewel settles in the sun or partial shade in cool, moist, well-drained soil rich in humus. For maintenance, it is sufficient to remove the dead wood and carry out a soft intaglio in order to optimize its production.

Installed in the orchard or in a fruit hedge, Prunus cerasus Carmine Jewel will satisfy you, and if you have limited space you can keep it in a pot on your terrace or a large balcony where it will give you a generous harvest of tasty fruits.
