Bamboo Fargesia Robusta Formidable is an ornamental plant that offers many benefits. Native to Asia, it is one of the non-spreading bamboos, which is distinguished by its rapid growth and elegant bearing. It can reach 4 meters in height for 2 m of spreading in a few years, which makes it an excellent choice for creating a screening hedge, free or trimmed, in your garden.

This bamboo is easy to grow and adapts to all situations. It tolerates sun, partial shade and shade, as well as all types of soil. It resists very well to cold, down to -20 °C, and does not fear diseases or harmful insects.

The Bamboo Formidable can also be planted alone, to take advantage of its dense and evergreen foliage, or in a large container, to decorate a terrace or a balcony. It will bring a touch of lightness and luxuriance to your exterior.

The Bamboo Fargesia Robusta Formidable requires little maintenance, just water it regularly and add some compost or organic fertilizer in the spring.

How to plant

Choose a location suitable for your bamboo (here all exposures are allowed)
Dig a hole about 50 cm deep and wide, depending on the size of the bamboo.
Improve the quality of the soil by adding compost or well-rotted manure, and possibly sand if the soil is too heavy or clayey.
Take the bamboo out of its pot and gently untangle the roots if they are too tight.
Place the bamboo in the center of the hole and cover it with soil up to the base of the stems, packing it well around the root ball.
Water thoroughly after planting and regularly thereafter, especially in summer and during dry spells. Bamboo likes cool, but well-drained soil.
Mulch the base of the bamboo with pine bark, wood chips or dead leaves, to conserve soil moisture and limit weeds.
Prune the bamboo if necessary, cutting off dead, damaged or too tall stems at the base. You can also thin out the foliage by removing side branches.
