The white Hibiscus Moscheutos is a perennial plant which belongs to the Malvaceae family. It is native to North America, where it grows in humid and marshy areas. It is a plant that offers a remarkable spectacle with its large white flowers with a scarlet red center, which contrast with its green foliage. It is also called White Swamp rose Mallow With Red Center.

This plant forms a rounded and dense bush, which can reach 1.50 m in height and width. Its stems are herbaceous. Its leaves are deciduous, alternate, oval and slightly toothed, dark green in colour. Its flowers are solitary or grouped at the end of the stems, in the shape of an open cup, 15 to 25 cm in diameter. They are composed of five pleated, white petals with a large red spot in the center. They bloom from July to September and attract pollinating insects.

White Swamp Rose Mallow With Red Center is a sun-loving plant. It prefers rich, fresh to moist, calcareous to neutral soil. It is hardy from -12 to -15°C maximum, but its stump must be heavily mulched in winter to protect it from frost. In temperate regions where winters are not too harsh, you can plant it in the ground, otherwise it is better to keep it in a pot to overwinter in a place where temperatures do not drop below -15°C. It is planted in spring, respecting a distance of 80 cm between plants. In winter, this perennial disappears completely only to reappear late, around mid-May or even the end of May. It is pruned in October-November, shortening to 10 cm from the ground (add thick mulch). Water regularly the first year, then in case of drought in subsequent years. It is fertilized in spring with an organic fertilizer.

The white Hibiscus Moscheutos is a perennial that brings an exotic and colourful touch to the garden. It is grown in clumps or isolated, but particularly appreciates the edges of ponds. It can also be planted in a large pot to place it on a terrace or balcony. It goes well with other perennials or annuals in bright or pastel colours. It is a perennial plant that is easy to care for and resistant to disease.
