A superb bushy shrub with an erect habit, the Cornus alba Sibirica or Siberian dogwood is highly prized for its decorative foliage and the spectacular bright hot pink colour of its wood, which illuminates the garden in winter. It is characterized in spring by leaves of a soft green colour with a bluish underside, which take on a magnificent flamboyant hue in the fall.
Fast-growing, the Cornus alba Sibirica reaches maturity 2 to 3 m in height for a width of 2 m. The flowers in creamy white corymbs bloom in May-June and give way to small round berries, bluish, inedible but very appreciated by birds.
Easy to maintain and very resistant to cold (down to -20 °), the Siberian dogwood likes cool, humus-bearing soils and supports humidity and limestone. A semi-shaded to sunny exposure is preferable. Cornus alba Sibirica should be pruned regularly to give new, more colourful shoots. To do this, in winter, cut the older twigs at ground level.
You will appreciate the winter beauty of your Siberian dogwood by installing it in a bed or in a low hedge, associated with other varieties of coloured dogwoods or shrubs with evergreen foliage.
