The Rhododendron Polar Bear is a variety that was awarded the First Class Certificate in 1946: its splendid flowering at the end of spring, offers a spectacle as aesthetic as it is perfumed ! This very vigorous shrub is adorned at the beginning of June with large white flowers on sublime emerald green evergreen foliage. Its tubular and slightly crumpled inflorescences, grouped in generous bunches of pure white, perfume the garden with sweet scents reminiscent of the Lily.

The Rhododendron Polar Bear grows best when planted in heather earth, in a sunny to semi-shaded position and protected from strong winds. It can be planted in a bed, a hedge or in isolated. Very hardy (-21°C) and resistant, it measures an average of 1.80 metres in height with a similar spread. It prefers acidic, fresh, aerated soil, and above all, no limestone.

The Rhododendron Polar Bear is sensitive to dryness and excess winter humidity: it appreciates mulching and regular watering without excess. It does not require pruning: simply cut back dead branches and remove spent flowers as they fall. It is recommended that the soil be enriched each year with a natural fertiliser and a top dressing of rhododendron and azalea soil (heather soil).
