Rhododendron Pinguin
Rhododendron hybride Pinguin
Description
The Rhododendron Pinguin is a small heather shrub with a remarkable flowering display of delicate lilac washed with cream and dark purple macule. Its shiny dark green evergreen foliage highlights its large inflorescences, with wavy petals, which form sublime and generous bouquets. It is an ideal subject to brighten up a small garden, a terrace or a yard.
The Rhododendron Pinguin is hardy to -21°C and not very demanding, it appreciates sunny to semi-shaded locations and acidic, rich and moist soil. It can easily be grown in the open ground in a bed or in a pot on the balcony or terrace, with its small size of 1.20 metres in height for the same span. To encourage its flowering, which appears at the beginning of May, it is advisable to carry out an annual top dressing with heather earth.
Very easy to grow and low maintenance, the Rhododendron Pinguin does not require any particular pruning. It is advisable to periodically remove old branches, leaves and faded flowers to rejuvenate the shrub and facilitate its growth. Mulching the base of the plant limits watering while keeping the soil cool: a regular and moderate supply of water is sufficient, with particular attention to the summer season.
