Actinidia deliciosa Hayward, or Kiwi Fruit female Hayward , is a climbing fruit tree native to Asia. This fast-growing climber is very productive and offers large fruits (much larger than those of the Boskoop variety), weighing 70 to 100 grams, to be harvested from September to November. The fruit has a long shelf life (between 2 and 3 months) and is oval in shape with light brown hairy skin and green, sweet, sour, juicy and fragrant flesh. It is a very aesthetic plant, with attractive medium-green deciduous foliage and small creamy-white melliferous flowers, which appear in May-June. It is a female variety and needs to be placed near at least one male, such as Atlas or Tomuri, to ensure pollination.

The Kiwi Fruit female Hayward is rather hardy (-15°C) and not very demanding: it appreciates a fresh and well-drained soil and adapts to all types of soil. To reveal its potential, it is necessary to train it on a structure: it can reach between 4 and 6 metres in height with an average spread of 4 metres. Its fruiting will be favoured by placing it in a south or south-west facing area, with a sunny exposure.

Actinidia deliciosa Hayward is very easy to grow: it is a very voluble and vigorous plant. All that is required is an annual pruning at the beginning of March, taking care to cut each branch that has borne fruit the previous year to 2 eyes. This species is very resistant to disease and tolerates both drought and pollution. To contribute to its good development, it is advisable to mulch its base and to ensure abundant watering from April to July and moderate watering the rest of the year.
