Description
The Obelisk® pear tree is a modern fruit variety with a narrow columnar habit, ideal for small gardens, terraces, balconies, or as a fruiting hedge. It reaches only 2 to 4 metres in height with a maximum spread of 0.80 to 1 metre, bringing elegant verticality to compact spaces. For hedging, trees should be spaced 80 cm apart.
Grafted as a low-stem tree on Cydonia oblonga K.Adams, this pear tree has moderate vigour, a naturally upright shape, and glossy green deciduous foliage. It is hardy down to –20 °C and well suited to temperate climates.
Flowering occurs in April, with white, nectar-rich blossoms that attract pollinators. Self-fertile, it produces large, juicy pears with a melting, sweet flesh every year. Cross-pollination with another pear variety increases yield. Harvest is easy from October to November, thanks to its accessible height.
The pears are medium to large, with green skin that may blush pink in sunlight. The flesh is fine-textured, tender, and well-balanced between sweetness and acidity. They store well for several weeks after picking.
Obelisk® prefers deep, humus-rich, moist but well-drained soil, and a sunny to semi-shaded location. For hedging, space trees 80 cm apart.
Low-maintenance. Pruning is done in autumn or late winter to maintain its columnar shape: shorten lateral shoots and remove suckers. Organic mulch supports consistent fruiting.
Perfect for urban gardens, terraces, vertical orchards, or as a fruiting border. Combines compact form, ornamental value, and generous harvests.
The Obelisk® pear tree (Pyrus communis Obelisk®) is a compact, columnar fruit tree ideal for limited spaces. With its narrow upright shape, it fits perfectly on balconies, terraces, in small gardens, or as a fruiting hedge. Grafted on Cydonia oblonga K.Adams, it is self-fertile, hardy, and easy to grow. Each year it produces large, juicy pears with melting sweet flesh, ready to harvest from October. Its spring bloom attracts pollinators, and its modest height allows for easy picking. Pruning is done in autumn or late winter to preserve its shape. Thanks to its vertical growth, reliable productivity, and excellent flavour, Obelisk® is a smart choice for growing delicious fruit in compact spaces.
