Description
The Sweet chestnut is a very productive grafted variety with a large, tender, and sweet chestnut of very good taste quality; it particularly affects a deep, acid, or sandy soil.
A sunny location where spruces were previously an ideal place, for example, for the Sweet chestnut from Lyon.
Its rusticity makes it possible to cultivate it up to 500M of altitude without problem.
This variety is monoecious, which means that the tree has male and female flowers and can self-fertilize. Despite its self-fertility, it is nevertheless interesting to plant a wild chestnut (castanea sativa) in the vicinity; this tip promotes cross-pollination to increase production.
The Sweet chestnut from Lyon are harvested at the end of September.
The subjects proposed are grafted on castanea sativa, the fruit setting is very fast; we regularly see fruits in the first year of grafting.
The development of the Sweet chestnut from Lyon is much more moderate than a wild chestnut with the advantage of being resistant to the fungal disease "rust."
