Castanea sativa Vincent Van Gogh, a dwarf and twisted variety of chestnut. (grafted plant)

Originally from Zundert in the Netherlands, Castanea sativa Vincent Van Gogh or Sweet chestnut Vincent Van Gogh is a dwarf variety of chestnut that grows slowly (around 10 cm per year). Its strongly twisted branches make it a very decorative and original shrub compared to the type species.

Being able to reach 3 to 4 m in height for a spread of 2 to 3 m, the Sweet chestnut Vincent Van Gogh is particularly suitable for small spaces and for growing in pots.

Castanea sativa Vincent Van Gogh flowers profusely from June to August in the form of yellow and white catkins. These are fragrant and very melliferous. The dark green leaves are toothed and shiny. The flowers are followed by brown chestnuts with firm and sweet flesh which are harvested in October. They are eaten both raw and cooked. Sweet chestnut Vincent Van Gogh go well with desserts as well as savory dishes. It can simply be eaten grilled. As the species is self-fertile, it is not necessary to plant another variety to obtain fruit.

The Sweet chestnut Vincent Van Gogh is planted in a sunny position in any type of soil, even poor, deep and well-drained but not calcareous. Rustic down to -23 ° C, it does not require any particular maintenance.

It is in autumn, when the leaves are falling, that we can best admire its particularly twisted silhouette, planted in isolation it will be superbly highlighted and will be the point of attention of your garden .
