Bletilla striata 'Purple' is the star of hyacinth orchids, with its pink-purple bloom that is sure to brighten up the garden! This orchid can be easily grown by beginners and even planted in pots for sunny balconies and terraces. Although most hardy orchids prefer a cool location, this one loves full sun, making it versatile enough to fit into almost anyone's outdoor setting. Its growth is surprisingly fast: in just a few years, you can get a clump of 20 to 30 stems, reaching 60 to 80 cm high! In addition, very hardy, it even survives harsh winters with temperatures down to -20n°C!

Planting advice:

Bletilla striata 'Purple' should be planted in well-drained soil, rich in organic matter and containing 20% mineral substrate (lava rock, pumice, pozzolana, perlite, etc.) for good drainage. In regions with harsh winters, it is important to mulch the orchid to further protect it. The orchid prefers full sun, so be sure to choose an area of your garden that receives sunlight for most of the day. Make sure that the chosen place is well drained, so that the roots (pseudo-bulbs) do not become waterlogged. With proper care and maintenance, your orchid should be blooming in no time!

After planting, this perennial orchid will begin its growth cycle as early as April, producing new shoots. Flowers appear in June/July. Bletilla striata 'Purple' goes dormant at the end of October, where its leaves begin to wilt and disappear completely for its hibernation until its new cycle the following spring. Each year, your clump of Bletilla will develop with new shoots and will very quickly form a beautiful and large clump.
