Epipactis Gigantea Serpentine Night - perennial Orchid

Epipactis Gigantea Serpentine Night

(5/5) out of 1 total ratings

This new garden orchid is still very little known in Europe, indeed, the Epipactis gigantea '' Serpentine Night '' is native to California, a selection was made to obtain a foliage as dark as possible, only a few small lots are arrived in Europe to be multiplied.

Very resistant to cold (-20 ° C of hardiness) this orchid can easily be grown in our gardens without any protection, it likes a rather sunny situation to half-shade, in a light and airy soil and always preferably wet in season hot.

Its yellow-orange bloom appears between June and August according to the regions, it is a magnificent contrast with the purple red foliage.

Vigorous without being of course invasive, it spreads by rhizome therefore you get in a few years a grove of "value" to share with your passionate friends, it's really an intriguing collectible plant to hold.
