Oleander Virginie – Nerium oleander 'Virginie'

Origins and characteristics

Native to the Mediterranean basin and Asia, Nerium oleander belongs to the Apocynaceae family. The ‘Virginie’ cultivar is prized for its large delicate flowers and abundant summer bloom.

Adult height : 2 to 3 metres

Adult spread : 1.50 to 2 metres

Habit : Bushy, dense and slightly flared

Foliage : Evergreen; elongated, leathery, glossy dark green leaves

Flowering period : June to October

Flowers : Large 5–6 cm blooms, pastel pink with a vivid pink striped throat

Fruits : Elongated capsules containing feathery seeds

Hardiness : Moderate, down to –8 °C; protection required in cold climates
