Apistar® Apple Tree (Malus domestica Apistar)

Introduction

With its star-shaped fruit, the Apistar® apple tree is a true gem in the garden—both decorative and delicious. This heirloom variety, recently brought back into cultivation, is admired for its uniquely shaped apples, often used to decorate holiday tables, especially at Christmas. Its juicy, crisp flesh offers a sweet and tangy flavor, ideal for eating fresh or cooking. This hardy apple tree withstands freezing temperatures and shows good resistance to common diseases. With its compact, slightly weeping habit, it’s a perfect fit for small gardens.

Blooming and harvest

Blooms April–May, fruits ready for harvest October–November.

Fruit

Flattened shape, white flesh, crisp and juicy, greenish-yellow skin with brick-red blush on the sun-facing side. Stores until May.

Hardiness and vigor

Very vigorous, hardy to -25°C (-13°F), resistant to scab and mildew.

Form and size

Low-stemmed tree with slightly weeping form, adult height 2 to 3 m.

Pollination

Compatible with: Reinette du Mans, Belle de Pontoise, Reinette d’Armorique.

Grafting

Grafted on MM111 rootstock (moderate vigor, good anchorage).
