The ‘Baumannii’ Horsechestnut is a striking ornamental variety of the common horsechestnut, selected for its spectacular flowering and complete absence of fruit. Its large, upright panicles of double white flowers, reaching 25 to 30 cm, create a stunning visual display throughout May.
Introduced in the 19th century by German nurseryman Baumann of Bollwiller, this deciduous tree forms a broad, symmetrical crown with strong upright branches and dense ramification. It reaches a mature height of 10 to 20 metres, with a spread of 8 to 12 metres.
The flowering period is unusually long for a horsechestnut, lasting several weeks in May. The flowers are sterile, fully double, and pure white, grouped in large, conical upright clusters. No fruit is produced, making this tree ideal for urban settings where falling chestnuts can be a nuisance.
