Description
The Japanese blood grass is a grass native to Japan. Its leaves are very original: first of a pretty olive green color, they will quickly tint red, the color will gain in intensity over the season. In fall, the deciduous leaves of Imperata cylindrica ‘Red Baron’ will be a very intense blood red that will work wonders in your garden. From August to September, pretty flowers in the form of feathery silvery white spikelets will adorn the colored leaves, provided the season is warm.
The Japanese blood grass makes small tufts of 40 to 50 cm high, spreading over approximately 35 cm. This rhizomatous perennial is hardy, it withstands temperatures down to -15 ° C and is not affected by pests and diseases. Imperata cylindrica ‘Red Baron’ likes draining and humid soils and a sunny exposure will strongly favor the development of its flamboyant color.
This original grass will find its place perfectly at the edge of a basin, in a pot or in a very sunny massif. It will go very well with perennials with similar colors and small shrubs. Wherever you choose to put it, the Japanese blood grass will bring splendid touches of bright color to your garden all summer, and will bring a beautiful asset to a colorful autumn landscape.
