Acer palmatum Seiryu, a decorative shrub all year round.

Acer palmatum Seiryu or Japanese Maple Seiryu is a spreading, bushy shrub that branches from the ground and is particularly decorative all year round. It is particularly attractive all year round, with lace-like, finely cut foliage that is soft green in spring, taking on exceptional autumn colours ranging from yellow with orange to purple, and arching branches that turn bright red in winter.

Fast-growing, Acer palmatum Seiryu reaches a height of 3 m and a spread of 3 to 4 m. It is equally suited to beds or pots, where its growth will be much more moderate. It flowers discreetly in May and June. The purple flowers are followed by highly decorative helix-shaped fruits called samaras.

The Japanese Maple Seiryu likes light, rich, cool, well-drained soil, preferably acidic to neutral. Place in sun or part shade. It is hardy down to -20 to -23 °C. At the end of winter, prune lightly if necessary.

With its finely cut leaves and bright colours, Acer palmatum Seiryu will add lightness and elegance to your garden or terrace all year round.
