Description
If you want to enhance your garden with the original charm of a weeping shrub, the Styrax Japonica Fragrant Fountain is exactly what you need. Limited development, but infinite grace, it will never cease to amaze you with the elegant graphics of its branches curving to the ground, endowed with shiny foliage and very fragrant flowering.
The flowers of Fragrant Fountain Japanese Snowbell appear at the end of May, flowering continues until July. The bells, drooping and very fragrant, are worn in clusters and are garnished with yellow stamens surrounded by four immaculate white petals.
At the end of summer, the flowers of Styrax Japonica Fragrant Fountain give way on the branches to small light gray ovoid fruits. These are dangling drupes which are reminiscent of pearls both in their shape and in their lustrous and sparkling appearance.
The foliage of this deciduous shrub, 2.5 m high and 2 m wide, is just as beautiful to look at. Oval, the small leaves are a shiny dark green. In autumn, just before falling, they take on a pretty yellow and red hue.
Styrax Japonica Fragrant Fountain is hardy down to -23°C. It thrives in the sun, but prefers partial shade in hot regions. For impeccable development, Fragrant Fountain Japanese Snowbell needs fresh, humus-rich, rich, acidic and well-drained soil. Please note that it does not tolerate limestone soil very well.
In isolation or in clumps, it only takes a little to bring out its elegant and graphic appearance. But it will assert itself even more in the company of shrubs such as hydrangea, witch hazel, azalea, pieris, Japanese maple or even rhododendron which also appreciate acidic soils.
