Absolutely stunning in late spring, Weigela Bristol Ruby blooms generously in an explosion of red flowers, ideal for creating highly decorative flowering hedges. Easy to grow, this vigorous shrub is resistant to pests and diseases.

Native to Asia, Red Weigelia is very hardy, withstanding cold temperatures down to -20 °C. When fully grown, this beautiful shrub has a compact, bushy habit and grows to a height of 2 to 3 metres with a spread of about 2 metres. It has large, elongated green leaves that turn purple in the autumn, providing the garden with beautiful seasonal colours. In May and June, the Weigela Bristol Ruby is covered with red flower buds (on the one-year-old branches), and then the bell-shaped flowers of a magnificent ruby red bloom, their number making the branches bend nicely.

The Red Weigelia can thrive in all types of soil, preferably fairly rich, and can be planted in both sun and part shade. It can be planted from autumn to spring, but avoid periods of frost. In spring, a good mulch helps the plant to recover by adding humus. Pruning takes place after flowering, to remove old wood and defoliated branches.
