Sambucus racemosa Plumosa Aurea or Red Elder Plumosa Aurea is a deciduous shrub with a bushy habit, very decorative with its luminous, finely cut golden yellow foliage, which highlights its creamy-white spring flowering and its red berries arranged in clusters. It is also interesting for its hardiness (it can withstand temperatures as low as -15° or even -20°C) and its ease of cultivation.

In May-June, Sambucus racemosa Plumosa Aurea offers clusters of creamy white flowers, arranged in umbels, followed at the end of August by small, bright red fruits that are very decorative and appreciated by birds. The leaves are finely cut into toothed leaflets and are bronze in colour, turning a splendid golden yellow in midsummer and dark yellow in autumn.

The Red Elder Plumosa Aurea grows rapidly, reaching a mature height of 2-3 m and a width of 1-2 m in only 2-3 years. It is content with ordinary soil, even limestone, but well drained, enriched with humus and exposed to partial shade. It requires little maintenance.

You will not fail to appreciate the elegance and charm of the remarkable feathery foliage borne on drooping branches of Sambucus racemosa Plumosa Aurea, which will illuminate your garden with its beautiful yellow colours, whether planted alone or in association with shrubs with darker or more colourful foliage.
