Description
When the weather is coming and you would like to enjoy a shade in your garden? The Catalpa Bignonioides is the tree for you!
Its rapid growth will soon give you the romantic nap of your dreams, under large heart-shaped leaves and spectacular white flowers. And with a little luck, you may find under this ornamental tree, a magic bean ...
Native to the United States, the Indian-bean tree is a decorative tree suitable for small gardens. Adult, it reaches 7 to 8 meters in height for a wingspan of around 6 meters. Its dense foliage, adorned with large deciduous leaves of about 10 to 15 cm, is much appreciated for the shade it provides.
In July, it offers a floral spectacle by adorning itself with white bells with red stripes. The latter resemble the trumpet-shaped flowers of the Bignone (campsis), hence the name Bignonioides.
In September, the Catalpa has a surprising fruiting body. Long beans, 30 to 40 cm long, will close its representation, before the fall and the fall of the first leaves, which also earned it the name of Indian-bean tree.
In winter and in frost-free periods, the Catalpa Bignonioides requires a slight pruning to maintain its beautiful silhouette. It is recommended to remove dead branches, as well as those growing inside and on its base.
Finally, the Catalpa Bignonioides is a solitaire that is self-sufficient. Suitable for all gardens, it is advisable to plant it in isolation.
