Description
The Quercus cerris Argenteovariegata or Variegated Turkey Oak is an uncommon and very rare deciduous tree, which is distinguished from the type species by a magnificent foliage variegated with green and white, very bright and by a smaller size. It also offers fruits whose cupule is bristling with filiform hairs similar to very decorative hair.
The Quercus cerris Argenteovariegata with its wide and spreading habit does not exceed 8 to 12 m in height for a spread of 4 to 5 m, it is ideal to brighten up small and large spaces. The trunk has dark, blackish, deeply cracked bark. In spring and summer, the strongly cut leaves are dark green with a creamy white margin, they take on beautiful brown-yellow autumnal hues and persist for a long time on the tree. The acorns, embedded in a cup dotted with soft scales, mature in September.
Very resistant, the Variegated Turkey Oak tolerates temperatures down to -25 ° C. It is resistant to diseases such as mildew. Not very demanding, it supports limestone and poor soils. Install it in drained, cool, humus-rich soil, exposed to sun or partial shade.
A real jewel to discover absolutely, the Quercus cerris Argenteovariegata with its creamy white variegated foliage will bring light in your garden from spring to autumn.
