Description
The Rhododendron Midnight Beauty is a very decorative evergreen shrub. It has magnificent deep burgundy red flowers underlined by a black macula. It flowers from mid-May to June. Vigorous, it is also very resistant to negative temperatures, down to -21 °C.
The Rhododendron Midnight Beauty can reach 1.50 m at maturity. Its elongated evergreen leaves, light green, contrast wonderfully with its almost black purple bloom.
When planting the Rhododendron Midnight Beauty, it is important to choose a spot with partial shade, so choose a spot where there are trees that provide shade during the hottest hours of the day if possible. Plant in acidic soil. If your soil is not acid enough, it is advisable to mix heather soil (for azaleas and rhododendron) in good quantity, at least 50%.
By combining it with other acid-tolerant plants, such as azaleas or camellias, you will obtain a flower garden of great beauty.
Caring for Rhododendron Midnight Beauty is relatively easy; just water regularly until well established, then continue to water periodically throughout the season, especially during dry spells. If you notice signs of yellowing leaves due to nutrient deficiency, we recommend giving your plant a boost by adding a fertilizer every three months or so, preferably one formulated specifically for plants that like acid soils.. Pruning can be done every year after flowering, but very lightly.
