Azalea Mollis Sonenson or Chinese Azalea Sonenson is a deciduous shrub whose height can reach 1.50 m. Its double salmon-pink flowers bloom in early May. Its deciduous foliage buds in copper tones and later turns light green. It has excellent cold hardiness, withstanding temperatures down to -21 °C. The Azalea Mollis Sonenson prefers acidic soils and thrives in sunny locations.

Planting tips :

If you're ready to add a Chinese Azalea Sonenson to your garden, there are a few important steps to planting it. Start by digging a hole three times as wide and deep as your new plant's root ball. Then place your plant in the hole and backfill with soil mixed with 50% heather potting soil, before gently but firmly compacting it around the roots. Finally, water generously until the plant is completely soaked and then regularly for the first few weeks, this will help your new plant establish itself quickly. Plant it with different varieties of azaleas or rhododendron to create very beautiful colourful beds, or even withJapanese maples for a Japanese atmosphere. Planted in a line at the edge of the undergrowth, the azaleas will create a screen or a decorative hedge. They can also be grown in pots to decorate terraces and balconies.

Maintenance tips :

The advantage of azaleas is that they are very easy to maintain! To keep your shrub beautiful all year round, provide it with plenty of water during periods of drought or heat. If necessary, prune dead branches or stems after flowering, which will promote its growth the following year! Cover your foot with mulch to maintain humidity in high heat and protect from harsh winters. Finally, feed your azalea with organic fertilizer once or twice a year, this will help keep it strong and healthy.
