Chinese quince, a very decorative fruit tree.

Small decorative fruit tree, native to China, the Pseudocydonia sinensis or Chinese quince surprises with both its graphic bark which is detached from the trunk in plates, revealing large orange spots, by its flowers of a nice pink and supported by its foliage that takes, in autumn, a beautiful scarlet hue. Adult, it reaches 5 to 6 m high and 4 m wide.

In April and May, the Chinese quince tree is covered with pink flowers of 2 to 3 cm, solitary and slightly fragrant which, opening, reveal a heart of yellow stamens. In autumn, it gives oval fruits of large size, a beautiful golden yellow color. These fruits, called Chinese quince pears, are yellow and smooth at maturity and are harvested from September to november.

Very hardy, Pseudocydonia sinensis enjoys the sun and the heat, it likes in a fresh soil, well drained and humiferous. It is resistant to temperatures down to -20 ° C.

You will particularly appreciate the taste of Chinese quince pears which, after cooking, will reveal all their aromas. You can make compotes, jellies or fruit pastes. The Chinese quince will find its place in your orchard, in a fruit hedge or isolated.
