Citrus Medica Sarcodactylis or Buddha's Hand, a curiosity.

Citrus Medica Sarcodactylis is a citrus fruit native to India from the cedar tree family. Its common name "Buddha's hand " comes from its fruit in the original form, namely a large hand with multiple fingers. Growing rather fast, it naturally forms a thorny shrub with irregular port.

Large white flowers with some shades of purple on the outside appear around April-May and until October, they exude an exquisite fragrance. But this tree is mostly grown for its fruit, spectacular citrus that mature in autumn. Not very acidic, with thick and lumpy skin that can be confit, they keep for a very long time. Having little flesh and little juice, it is especially the zest that is interesting in cooking. The white and fragrant flesh will enhance your salads and fish.

Given its coldness (it is very sensitive to frost), the planting of Citrus Medica Sarcodactylis in open ground can only be done in mild climates and in a sheltered situation, in a well-drained and moist soil, rich and organic. It adapts perfectly to the pot culture. Choose a large pot and keep it away from the cold in winter (minimum 5 °).

Plant grafted onto a Volkamariana rootstock.
