Its leaves are very large with 15 to 23 serrated leaflets 30 to 60 cm long.

The Black walnut produces nuts of 4 to 6 cm, very appreciated for their gustative qualities, they are very fragrant and tender.

The twigs are fluffy, the bark of very dark color has earned its nickname.

Its very good quality wood is used for furnishings and woodwork.
