Description
Cercidiphyllum Japonicum Pendulum or Pendulous Katsura has a gracefully cascading shape falling to the ground and foliage with an exquisite caramel scent.
Oval to round, the leaves of Pendulous Katsura are bronze when they burst, then tender green in spring. In autumn, they change from yellow to orange and red. It is at this moment, just before falling, that they most intensely reward you with their captivating fragrances reminiscent of cinnamon and caramelized sugar.
In March-April, Pendulous Katsura gives small red flowers. They are followed, in female individuals, by fruits in the form of green to brown follicles.
The Cercidiphyllum Japonicum Pendulum can reach a size of 6 m in height and 5 m in wingspan, which is exactly what is needed for a small garden.
Pendulous Katsura is very hardy, since it is able to withstand temperatures below -23°C. It likes deep, fresh and well-drained soils. Acidic soil is strongly recommended. He is not prone to diseases.
To lose none of the romanticism of this tree which, in the wild, favours rivers and small streams, plant it near a body of water and let yourself be carried away by the changing reflections of its cascading silhouette.
