Description
Native to East Asia, Deutzia 'Red Swirl' belongs to the Hydrangeaceae family. This horticultural hybrid is renowned for its delicate bicolour flowers and graceful habit.
Mature height: 1.50 to 1.75 metres.
Mature spread: 1.20 metres.
Habit: Bushy, flexible, slightly arching.
Foliage type: Deciduous; fresh green in spring and summer, turning golden in autumn.
Flowering period: May to June.
Flowers: Clusters of star-shaped blooms, pink inside, deep pink edged with white outside, subtly fragrant.
Fruits: Discreet capsules after flowering.
Hardiness: Excellent, down to -20 °C.
Exposure: Full sun or partial shade.
Soil: Ordinary, light to slightly humus-rich, well-drained.
Tolerance: Tolerates various soil types; avoid excessively dry soils in summer.
Period: All year except during frost; ideally in autumn or spring.
Preparation: Loosen the soil; add compost for best results.
