Native to Asia (Himalaya, China), Leycesteria formosa belongs to the Caprifoliaceae family, alongside honeysuckle and elder. The ‘Purple Rain’ cultivar stands out with deeper purple tones in stems and foliage, and more contrasted flowering than the botanical type.
