Native to China and Japan, Deutzia scabra belongs to the Hydrangeaceae family. It is valued for its fragrant summer flowering and its decorative peeling bark in winter.

Adult height: 2 to 3 m.

Habit: Upright, dense, bushy.
Foliage: Deciduous; dark green, rough to the touch, turning yellow in autumn.

Flowers: White, star‑shaped, fragrant flowers in 10–15 cm panicles; highly attractive to pollinators.
