Glossy Abelia
Abelia Grandiflora
Description
Half evergreen shrub, native to China, the Abelia grandiflora or Glossy Abelia will enchant your garden with its light and graceful silhouette, its very decorative shiny foliage and its abundant fragrant flowering that lasts all summer.
Medium in size (2 m to 2.50 m high with a spread of 1.50 m to 3 m), the Abelia grandiflora has a bushy habit with flexible and arched branches. Its flowers, grouped in terminal panicles, bloom and perfume the garden from June to October. Pinkish white in color, they blend perfectly with the shiny dark green foliage. In autumn, the flowers fade giving way to beautiful red bracts while the leaves are nicely tinged with purplish pink.
Undemanding, rather resistant (down to -19 ° C) and resistant to drought, the Glossy Abelia adapts to all types of soil. You will install it in a light soil, enriched with potting soil and well drained, preferably in the sun. You will prune it after flowering to keep it in good shape. -
Abelia grandiflora is the ideal shrub to create a decorative hedge in shimmering colors or to create an autumnal massif. Its flexible habit, the profusion of its flowers and the changing tones of its leaves make it an excellent subject to plant in isolation.
