Rowan and mountain-ash - Sorbus Aucuparia

Sorbus Aucuparia

(5/5) out of 10 total ratings

The Rowan or Mountain-ash is a small, elegant, slender tree with an upright habit, which makes it not very bulky.

In addition to its attractive foliage and decorative bark, it is most interesting in autumn when its orange-red fruits appear in bunches, adding a touch of colour to the garden until the depth of winter.

They attract thrushes and other passerines, which are fond of them. In the past, the fruits of the Sorbus were harvested when they were ripe, to make jam and brandy.

A small tip for obtaining a beautiful and productive Sorbus Aucuparia is to plant it in a mixture of equal parts of soil, peat and heath.
