Mongolian Linden - Tilia mongolica

Tilia mongolica

(4/5) out of 1 total ratings

Tilia mongolica, a rare tree with remarkable foliage.

Native to Mongolia, the Tilia mongolica or Mongolian Linden is a magnificent very decorative collector's tree, not widely used in cultivation, which is distinguished by its remarkable dense foliage, deeply toothed and lobed, reminiscent of that of the vine.

Rounded and compact in shape, the Tilia mongolica reaches 8 to 10 m in height for a spread of 5 to 6 m, which allows its establishment in small spaces. Its young shiny leaves, initially bronze in color, quickly take on a dark green hue and finally turn golden yellow in autumn. Flowering occurs in June-July. Powerfully fragrant flowers, pale yellow almost white, open in the form of small, hanging clusters. Very honeyed, they are regularly visited by bees. Its initially smooth greyish-brown bark cracks with age.

The Mongolian Linden, hardy down to -28 ° C, settles in any type of soil enriched with compost and potting soil, well drained, in sunny or semi-shaded situation. It requires little maintenance.

Very interesting all year round, Tilia mongolica can be used in isolation, in hedges or in beds. You will be able to enjoy its majestic silhouette, the powerful scent of its flowers and its incomparable bright foliage in autumn.
