Asimina Triloba, a little-known fruit tree to discover.

The Asimina Triloba also called Pawpaw is a rare exotic fruit tree native to the eastern United States. Beautiful deciduous tree with a pyramidal port of about 6 m in height and a wingspan of 6 m, it is distinguished by its very original wine-red-colored flowering and by its highly prized fruit.

At the end of spring, the first flowers of Asimina Triloba are born, the corolla of which consists of six petals (2 cycles of three), velvety and embossed, purple to brown in color. The flowering of Asimina Triloba lasts from May to August. The foliage then appears.

Not being self-fertile, because the stigmas mature before the stamens, cross-pollination is necessary so at least two subjects will be needed to have fruiting.

Pawpaw fruits can weigh up to 400g, they reach maturity in early fall. Oval in shape and yellow-green in color, they are often grouped together and resemble mangoes. The orange-yellow flesh has a tangy and sweet taste between that of bananas and mango. They are eaten fresh, in sorbets, compotes or juice.

Hardy to - 25 ° C, Asimina Triloba is planted in a slightly acidic and well-drained soil, it needs a sunny exposure to bear fruit.

Lover of rare fruit trees, bring a touch of exoticism to your garden by installing a Pawpaw. You will have the privilege of tasting original and delicate fruits.

This Pawpaw is the common variety therefore non-grafted.
