Origin North America

Vaccinium corymbosum Duke, or Blueberry Duke, is a self-fertile fruiting shrub native to North America. Known for its late flowering, in May-June, it is an ideal subject for regions suffering from late frosts. It has white flowers and an early and abundant fruiting season, providing large, firm-fleshed, sweet, blue plum fruits that can be harvested from early July.

The Blueberry Duke is hardy (-25°C) and appreciates a sunny location with acidic, cool and light soil. When fully grown, it is 1.50 to 1.75 metres tall with an average spread of 1.50 metres. It is a very decorative shrub for most of the year: with its globular shape, its pretty medium green deciduous foliage, which turns purple in autumn, and its delicious, long-lasting berries.

Vaccinium corymbosum Duke requires abundant watering at planting to facilitate its rooting, then moderate watering once it is well established, as it tolerates drought very well. Periodic pruning in March or September is recommended to increase the density of the plant's growth. Although it is self-fertile, it is more productive when cross-pollinated: a counterpart planted nearby significantly increases its yield.
