Ficus carica Brown Turkey, self-fertile and biferous variety.

Native to Central Asia, the Ficus carica Brown Turkey or Fig tree Brown Turkey is a vigorous and very productive fruit tree. Considered to be the most resistant, this variety of fig tree is adapted to cold regions, it supports strong frosts and temperatures down to -20 ° C. Biferous, it gives two harvests per year, a first in summer and a second more abundant in autumn. A self-fertile variety, the Fig tree Brown Turkey does not need a pollinator to fruit.

With an adult height of 3 to 4 m for the same spread, the Ficus carica Brown Turkey is an ornamental shrub with large lobed leaves of a beautiful pure green. Flowering occurs in July-August. Then come the fruits, at the end of July-beginning of August and in September-October, it offers elongated figs of green color becoming reddish brown when ripe, weighing 30 to 45 gr each. These fruits with very sweet amber flesh are eaten both fresh and dried. They are also used in baking, as an accompaniment to dishes or made into jams.

The Fig tree Brown Turkey appreciates a sunny position. It adapts to any type of soil as long as it is light, enriched in humus and well drained. It can be slightly pruned for better production.

Plant a Ficus carica Brown Turkey in your garden or even in a container large enough for your patio, you will have the pleasure of harvesting tasty fruits twice a year.
