Foliage: Aurea Dogwood is distinguished by its deciduous foliage of a bright yellow in spring, turning golden green in summer and offering magnificent orange hues in autumn. It has a spreading shape.
Flowering: flowering occurs in winter or early spring, before the leaves appear (February-March). The small yellow flowers grouped in corymbs are melliferous and attract pollinating insects.
Fruiting: The fruits, called dogwoods, are fleshy, ovoid drupes that are bright red when ripe and contain a small pit. They appear in late summer and often persist on the shrub into fall. Although Aurea Dogwood is self-fertile, the presence of other dogwood varieties can improve fruiting and fruit size. Dogwoods are edible and have a tart, cherry-like taste.
