Ceanothus delilianus Gloire de Versailles or California Lilac Gloire de Versailles is an old variety resulting from a cross between Ceanothus americanus and caeruleus. Small bushy shrub, easy to grow, 1.50 m high for the same spread, it offers many light blue panicles, slightly fragrant all summer long.

The California Lilac Gloire de Versailles has tender green deciduous foliage, finely toothed and shiny above. From July to September, it is covered with a sublime sky-blue bloom in the form of large panicles of very dense, delicately scented, nectariferous and very honey-bearing flowers (about 15 cm). This vaporous bloom takes place on the wood of the year.

The Ceanothus delilianus Gloire de Versailles appreciates sunny or semi-shaded situations. Not very demanding on the nature of the soil, but preferably acidic to neutral, it thrives in light, fresh and rich soil. Hardy up to - 15 ° C, it is advisable to mulch it in severe winters. Slightly shorten the twigs in spring, remove dead wood.

The California Lilac Gloire de Versailles is ideal in flower beds or hedges. To create a beautiful harmony of colors, combine it with other flowering shrubs such as Caryopteris, Forsythia or Deutzias to form beautiful flowering hedges or colorful beds.
